Comfort Zone.
How many times have you heard “you need to get comfortable being uncomfortable?” Or how about “growth comes for leaving your comfort zone?”
What if we got it wrong? What if, for many of us reaching our highest potential was in fact the polar opposite. I think that is what may be pulling me forward. What if “I needed to just get uncomfortable being comfortable?”
You see comfort is the path of least resistants. Something you’re used to, a habit. It is something that seems easy. You see for many of us, our comfort seems like a luxury for so many. In reality, our comfort zone isn’t too bad.
What I am starting to realize is that your comfort zone is not fixed. As we do the little things that once made us uncomfortable we grow and become comfortable with it. When we reach a place, and it is different for everyone it becomes hard to grow. We feel a sense of security in staying put or are embarrassed to take a risk, it is at this point were we need to dig deep about what we really want.
In life, I think we all have dreams that we aspire too, and our paths are all unique to us. Too many of us are going to fall short of getting what we want. We have different personalities, resources, motivation, etc… For many, they will be motivated to want more and will push themselves out of their comfort zone in hopes of a better life. For those that are comfortable, they may need to be pulled out of their comfort zone. What is pulling or pushing us is different for everyone, but just knowing that there are various ways to grow is inspiring. So, what is pushing you? Or pulling you?
I don’t think I am alone, but I fear regret. Are you going to look back on your life a year, ten years or decades away and regret not taking your shot at something more. Well, shots are often missed, awkward and embarrassing. That risk is what makes it uncomfortable and often worth it, but you know what they say “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
So, let me ask you this. What are you doing now that is uncomfortable? What have you done in the past that was uncomfortable at the time, was it worth it? What do you need to do now to avoid regret later? And most importantly, are you going to take your shot?
